What our patient’s are saying…

Peter W -

“I first started seeing Jess at Maine Ascent Physical Therapy in May 2023 at age 66.  I had injured my knee and also was experiencing lower back pain and nerve pain down my legs.  I was having trouble keeping up with the physical requirements of my job; doing the yard work I enjoy; and, pursuing a passion of running marathons as charity fundraisers. I thought the time was coming to seriously cut back on some or all of these activities.  I told her at my intake appointment that I felt "I was strong enough but not resilient enough" to continue to undertake these activities.

Jess did not try to get me to lessen my activity goals but instead set to work assessing my mobility and movement patterns.  She then showed me the necessary at home exercises and movement corrections to undertake between visits.  I was surprised at how quickly my acute pain dissipated by simply doing the at home carryover exercises on a regular basis. Once my acute symptoms were under control she helped me develop a workout plan and physical therapy regimen that I could continue to build resilience.

I have had some setbacks and flareups over the last two years.  In each case, Jess adjusted my at home carryover plan to address them and helped bring any acute pain under control in a matter of days.  In the past these types of flareups would result in persistent pain for weeks.

Two years later, I am finding it easier to balance my work and at home physical activities with my marathon training.  I completed the Chicago Marathon in 2023 and the Boston Marathon in April 2025 - raising $35,000 in total. I doubt these fundraising efforts would have been possible without her knowledge and guidance.

Sidenote:  Appointments are educational and well organized in a low stress environment with good conversation and humor mixed in.
